As students and families navigate one of the most important transitions: Choosing the right college environment, the need for guidance that reflects both academic and faith priorities continues to grow.

In 2026, Muslim Campus Life was honored to support this journey through our Muslim College Tours initiative, bringing together students, parents, and campus communities across the United States for meaningful, faith-centered exploration.

This year’s tours reflected both the growing interest and the importance of creating intentional spaces for Muslim students in higher education.

Program Highlights:

  • 8 college tours hosted across multiple campuses
  • 302 registered participants
  • 150+ attendees
  • Representation from 11 states: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Virginia, Florida, Illinois, California, and Washington

From across the nation, students and families came together with a shared goal: to better understand how to navigate the college experience while staying grounded in their faith and values.

Beyond the Traditional Campus Visit

What sets the Muslim College Tours apart is our commitment to going beyond the surface of a typical campus tour.

Each experience was thoughtfully designed to provide both insight and connection through:

  • Faculty and chaplain-led conversations on faith-based resources
  • Student panels offering honest perspectives on campus life
  • Student-led tours that highlighted real, lived experiences

These elements created space for open dialogue, allowing families to ask the questions that matter most.

We are deeply grateful to the students, families, campus partners, and school communities who made this year’s tours possible. As we look ahead, Muslim Campus Life remains committed to expanding access, strengthening partnerships, and continuing to support Muslim students at every stage of their college journey.

Stay connected with us to learn more about upcoming programs and future college tour opportunities!

On April 11–12, 2026, Muslim Campus Life had the opportunity to attend and table at the Black Muslim Action Conference, hosted at Howard University in Washington, DC.

Held at the Blackburn University Center, the conference brought together current and aspiring leaders of African diasporic Muslim communities, creating a space centered on intention, collaboration, and collective progress.

A Space for Community and Collective Growth

The Black Muslim Action Conference is a convening designed to move communities forward through shared vision and action. It fosters connection across generations, cultures, and geographies, grounded in the belief that collective impact is strengthened through unity.

Throughout the two-day gathering, participants engaged in:

  • Community goal setting
  • Impactful workshops and speaker sessions
  • Meaningful dialogue across communities
  • Collective strategy-building
  • Showcases of community-led initiatives

Muslim Campus Life at the Conference

As part of our participation, Muslim Campus Life hosted a table throughout the conference, creating a dedicated space to connect with attendees and share more about our work.

Tabling provided an opportunity to engage directly with students, educators, and community leaders, many of whom are deeply invested in supporting Muslim students and strengthening campus communities.

Through these conversations, we shared insights on:

  • The experiences of Muslim students in higher education
  • The importance of institutional support and inclusion
  • Ongoing initiatives by Muslim Campus Life

More importantly, it allowed us to listen, learning from the perspectives, challenges, and aspirations of Black Muslim communities across different spaces.

Building Meaningful Connections

Beyond tabling, the conference served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration. The diversity of voices and experiences present highlighted both the complexity and strength of Muslim communities today. Engaging with leaders and participants across sectors reaffirmed a shared commitment: advancing equity, access, and representation for Muslim communities both on campus and beyond.

Attending the Black Muslim Action Conference was not only an opportunity to share our work, but also to deepen our understanding of the broader ecosystem of Muslim leadership and community building. As Muslim Campus Life continues its work in higher education, spaces like this remain essential, grounding our efforts in community, collaboration, and collective impact.

From April 2–4, 2026, Muslim Campus Life attended the Islamophobia Working Group Conference at University of Michigan. The conference centered on the theme “Islamophobia After Gaza: The Use and Abuse of the Islamophobia Framework in U.S. Higher Education,” bringing together scholars and practitioners to critically examine how Islamophobia is understood and addressed within academic spaces.

Engaging Critical Conversations

Over the course of the conference, sessions explored:

  • Islamophobia in U.S. higher education in the aftermath of Gaza
  • The use—and misuse—of the Islamophobia framework in institutional and academic contexts

Discussions highlighted how frameworks of Islamophobia can, at times, be detached from broader systems such as colonialism and racial capitalism. Participants were challenged to consider whether current approaches meaningfully reflect lived realities or risk being reduced to surface-level diversity narratives.

Key reflections emphasized:

  • The importance of grounding scholarship in community realities
  • The need to move beyond diluted, institutionalized approaches to inclusion
  • Centering voices and experiences that are often marginalized
  • Aligning academic work with principles of justice and accountability

Muslim Campus Life’s Presence

Muslim Campus Life attended the conference as part of its ongoing commitment to engaging deeply with issues that impact Muslim students in higher education.

As conversations around Islamophobia continue to evolve, participating in spaces like this allows us to both contribute to and learn from critical discourse while bringing these insights back into our work supporting Muslim campus communities.

The Islamophobia Working Group Conference served as an important space for reflection and re-evaluation, encouraging more honest, nuanced, and community-centered approaches to understanding Islamophobia.

For Muslim Campus Life, this engagement reinforces the importance of bridging scholarship and practice, ensuring that efforts to address Islamophobia remain grounded in both critical analysis and lived experience.

Muslim Campus Life recently completed a series of Islamophobia training sessions for student-facing staff at Vanderbilt University. These sessions were designed to equip campus professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to better support Muslim students and address Islamophobia within the campus environment. The training series reflects a growing commitment among institutions of higher education to move beyond awareness and toward meaningful action in fostering inclusive campus communities.

Training Focus Areas

The sessions were designed to be both informative and interactive, covering key areas such as:

  • Understanding Islamophobia
We explored the different ways Islamophobia can manifest on campus—from overt discrimination to more subtle forms such as bias and microaggressions.
  • Impact on Students
We discussed how Islamophobia affects Muslim students’ sense of belonging, mental well-being, and academic experience.
  • Recognizing Islamophobia
Participants were guided on how to identify Islamophobic behaviors and patterns, particularly in student-facing roles.
  • Responding to Islamophobia
We provided practical strategies for responding to incidents in ways that are supportive, informed, and effective.

Interactive Learning Approach

To ensure the sessions were engaging and applicable, the training incorporated case studies and scenario-based discussions. These activities created space for participants to reflect, ask questions, and practice applying what they learned in real-world contexts. This interactive approach helped staff feel more confident in navigating complex situations and responding with care and accountability.

Participant Feedback

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many staff members shared that the sessions provided valuable insights and practical tools that they can immediately apply in their roles. Participants also emphasized the importance of ongoing learning and institutional commitment to creating a campus environment where all students feel safe, supported, and valued.

Looking Ahead

The completion of this training series marks an important step forward, but the work does not end here. Addressing Islamophobia requires sustained effort, continued education, and institutional accountability. Muslim Campus Life remains committed to partnering with campuses to provide training, resources, and support that advance equity and inclusion for Muslim students.

This launch marks an important step in advancing more informed, responsive, and supportive spaces for Muslim students across campuses.

A Timely and Needed Conversation

Islamophobia continues to shape the experiences of many Muslim students impacting their sense of belonging, safety, and overall well-being. While many institutions are committed to diversity and inclusion, there is often a gap when it comes to addressing religious-based discrimination. The Confronting Islamophobia on Campus Toolkit was developed to help bridge that gap by equipping campus professionals with both context and practical guidance.

Featured Speakers

The webinar featured leading voices in higher education and research:

  • Shafiqa Ahmadi and Darnell Cole, Authors of Islamophobia in Higher Education: Combating Discrimination and Creating Understanding
    • EJ Edney, Associate Dean of Belonging and Communities at Vanderbilt University

During this session, we formally launched our “Confronting Islamophobia On Campus” Toolkit and discuss:

  • Understanding the current landscape of Islamophobia in higher education
  • Institutional responsibilities and accountability frameworks
  • Strategies for building cross-campus coalitions
  • Practical tools for administrators, faculty, and student affairs professionals
  • Q & A

The session also created space for reflection and dialogue, encouraging attendees to think critically about their roles in fostering inclusive campus environments.

About the Toolkit

The Confronting Islamophobia on Campus Toolkit provides a structured overview of Islamophobia in higher education, including its historical context, its impact on students, and recommendations for institutional response.

It also highlights real campus-based examples and offers guidance for supporting Muslim and Muslim-adjacent students, making it a practical starting point for campuses looking to take action.

Moving Forward

The launch of this toolkit is just the beginning. Addressing Islamophobia on campus requires ongoing commitment, institutional accountability, and continued learning.

Muslim Campus Life remains committed to supporting this work through:

  • Trainings and workshops
  • Resource development
  • Campus partnerships and consultation

This year, Muslim Campus Life had the incredible opportunity to attend the NASPA Annual Conference 2026, one of the largest gatherings of student affairs professionals. Hosted in Kansas City, the conference brought together educators, practitioners, and thought leaders committed to advancing student success across higher education.

Representing Muslim Student Voices

Our mission has always centered on uplifting and supporting Muslim students on campus. Attending NASPA allowed us to bring these conversations to a broader audience, highlighting both the unique challenges and the resilience of Muslim communities in higher education. Throughout the conference, we engaged with professionals from diverse institutions, exchanging ideas and building connections that will strengthen how campuses support religious inclusion moving forward.

Presenting: Confronting Islamophobia on Campus

One of the highlights of our time at NASPA was the opportunity to present on:
“Confronting Islamophobia on Campus: Introduction to Islamophobia.”

Our session focused on:

  • Providing an introduction to Islamophobia and how it manifests in campus environments
  • Sharing real experiences of Muslim students navigating higher education
  • Offering practical strategies for educators and administrators to create safer, more inclusive spaces

The discussion was both meaningful and energizing. We were encouraged by the engagement from attendees who are actively seeking ways to better support their Muslim student populations.

Building Connections

Beyond sessions and presentations, NASPA provided a valuable space for connection. We met with student affairs professionals, diversity practitioners, and campus leaders who are passionate about equity and inclusion.

These conversations reaffirmed the importance of collaboration. Supporting Muslim students is not a standalone effort. It requires institutions, educators, and communities working together. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who attended our session, engaged in conversations, and expressed interest in our work.
