Muslim Campus Life (MCL) was honored to attend, table, and present at the 2025 Ivy Muslim Conference (IMC), an annual gathering that brings together Muslim students from the Ivy League and beyond. First envisioned by Sr. Lisa Kinney-Bajwa and Imam Bajwa during their time at Cornell and expanded at Yale in 2008, the conference has grown into a signature space for Muslim students to explore faith, identity, and intellectual growth in a welcoming, spiritually uplifting environment.

Each year, IMC creates a rare opportunity for students to discuss the blessings and challenges of being Muslim in today’s world, connect with peers from across campuses, and build lasting bonds rooted in shared purpose and community.

What the Ivy Muslim Conference Offers

The conference continues to serve as a vital platform for:

1. Spiritual Reflection & Identity Building

2. Intellectual Exploration

3. Real Conversations & Community Support

4. Networking & Long-Term Connections

Muslim Campus Life’s Presence at the 2025 IMC

At this year’s Ivy Muslim Conference, Muslim Campus Life launched the Muslim Student Experience Survey, a nationwide effort to better understand and evaluate the experiences of Muslim students in higher education. The insights gathered from this survey will help us identify student needs, assess available campus resources, and shape future programming and advocacy efforts to better support Muslim life on campus.

To encourage survey completion, we offered FREE professional headshots for attendees, providing high-quality photos they can use for LinkedIn, resumes, and other professional platforms. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting Muslim students both academically and professionally

The Ivy Muslim Conference continues to be a cherished space where identity, leadership, and spirituality intersect. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many inspiring students and to contribute to a conference that uplifts Muslim life on campus year after year.

We look forward to returning, collaborating, and continuing to support Muslim students across the country. Stay tuned for more updates, initiatives, and resources from Muslim Campus Life.

Presenting at the 2025 NACAC Conference https://www.muslimcampuslife.com/2025/09/25/presenting-at-the-2025-nacac-conference/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 18:46:37 +0000 https://www.muslimcampuslife.com/?p=2454 Read More »Presenting at the 2025 NACAC Conference]]> The 2025 National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) conference in Columbus, Ohio provided a crucial platform to address one of higher education’s most pressing yet underexplored challenges: anti-Muslim bias and Islamophobia in college admissions. Our presentation, “Confronting Anti-Muslim Bias & Islamophobia: Building Inclusive Admissions Practices,” drew admissions professionals eager to learn how unconscious bias affects Muslim applicants and what institutions can do to create more equitable processes. The session highlighted real-world examples of how Muslim students’ extracurricular activities, essay topics, and community involvement are sometimes viewed through a discriminatory lens, potentially impacting their admission chances at institutions that pride themselves on diversity and inclusion.

Tabling at the conference exhibit hall proved equally valuable, offering intimate conversations with admissions counselors, directors, and international recruitment specialists who shared their own observations and concerns about serving Muslim student populations. Many attendees stopped by to discuss practical strategies for training admission committees to recognize and counteract implicit bias, while others sought resources for supporting Muslim students once they arrive on campus. The exhibit space became an informal forum for sharing best practices, from creating inclusive application review rubrics to developing partnerships with Muslim student organizations and community leaders.

The overwhelmingly positive response at NACAC 2025 demonstrated the profession’s readiness to tackle this important work head-on. Attendees left with concrete action steps, including bias interruption techniques for application review, inclusive marketing strategies to reach Muslim families, and frameworks for creating campus climates where Muslim students can thrive authentically. As college admissions continues to evolve toward more holistic and equitable practices, addressing anti-Muslim bias isn’t just about fairness—it’s about ensuring that higher education truly serves all students and communities. The conversations that began in Columbus will undoubtedly continue as institutions commit to making their admissions processes more inclusive and representative of our diverse society.

During our presentation, we highlighted several key areas where targeted support makes a meaningful difference.

From the college counselor side, we emphasized the need to proactively address potential obstacles before they become barriers. This means understanding Islamic holidays when scheduling meetings, recognizing the significance of family input in decision-making processes, and helping students craft narratives that celebrate their identities.

From the admissions side, we emphasized the critical role of creating inclusive review processes and campus environments. This includes training admissions staff on cultural competency, ensuring campus visit programs accommodate diverse needs, and actively working to dispel unconscious biases that might influence application review.
