The 4th Annual Ramadan Webinar: Helping Campuses Prepare for Ramadan
Continuing its commitment to supporting Muslim students in higher education, Muslim Campus Life hosted the 2026 Ramadan Webinar, bringing together more than 100 university administrators, faculty, and staff from campuses across the United States.
This year’s webinar focused on how institutions can meaningfully support Muslim students amid ongoing campus climate challenges, including Islamophobia, while also preparing for the academic and communal impact of Ramadan.
The speakers of the session are Joshua Salam, Muslim Chaplain at Duke University and Asma Malik, Associate Director of Admissions at NYU. Drawing on their experiences working closely with students and campus leadership, they provided both foundational context and practical guidance for higher education professionals.
Key discussions during the webinar included:
- Understanding Islam and the diversity within Muslim communities
- The significance of Ramadan and how fasting may affect students academically and socially
- Effective campus communication around Ramadan and religious accommodations
- Considerations for housing, dining, and shared living spaces during the fasting month
- Halal food access and inclusive dining alternatives
- Prayer needs and scheduling considerations, including Friday congregational prayer
- Moving beyond Ramadan toward sustainable, year-round institutional support
Throughout the webinar, speakers emphasized that Muslim students are not a monolithic group and that thoughtful, proactive engagement, rooted in listening and consultation is essential to creating inclusive campus environments.
The 2026 Ramadan Webinar reaffirmed that clear communication, practical accommodations, and consistent institutional commitment play a critical role in ensuring Muslim students feel supported and respected, not only during Ramadan, but throughout the academic year.
