Presenting at the 2025 NACAC GWI Conference

Muslim Campus Life had the privilege of presenting at the NACAC Guide for Inclusive Excellence (GWI) conference on supporting Muslim students through the college admissions process.  Muslim students often navigate complex intersections of identity, faith, and academic aspirations that require nuanced understanding from education professionals. During our presentation, we highlighted several key areas where targeted support makes a meaningful difference.

From the college counselor side, we emphasized the need to proactively address potential obstacles before they become barriers. This means understanding Islamic holidays when scheduling meetings, recognizing the significance of family input in decision-making processes, and helping students craft narratives that celebrate their identities.

From the admissions side, we emphasized the critical role of creating inclusive review processes and campus environments. This includes training admissions staff on cultural competency, ensuring campus visit programs accommodate diverse needs, and actively working to dispel unconscious biases that might influence application review.
